Low Vision
Low vision is a visual impairment that cannot be adequately corrected with medication, surgery, glasses, or contact lenses. It can be a loss of clarity, visual field loss, reduced contract sensitivity, or visual distortion.
Low Vision Services
Low vision services do not restore vision or prevent further vision loss, so it is vital to continue all other appointments and treatments. Low vision services help the patient learn to use their remaining vision to its fullest potential with strategies and devices.
Common Causes of Low Vision
Some of the more common causes of low vision include:
- Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
- Glaucoma
- Diabetic retinopathy
- Retinitis Pigmentosa
- Eye injuries
- Optic nerve hypoplasia
- Optic atrophy
